The Event
To start the conference we were privileged to have secured the services of Lord Lawson of Blaby, known to us all as the former Chancellor of the Exchequer under Margaret Thatcher’s government of the 1980s. Lord Lawson addressed us on the issues of global warming. Most of us know something about climate change and have opinions about it, but few of us have made great efforts to understand it. In this presentation, Lord Lawson explained why he dissents from the consensus opinion and his opinion is one very much worth hearing.
James TurkLater in the day James Turk, author of ‘The Collapse of the Dollar’ and founder of goldmoney.com, explained why the dollar is heading toward its intrinsic (i.e. paper) value, and how to profit from this. We were privileged to have James at our conference to explain this extremely important message. I have heard James speak at conferences in New Orleans, New York, Chicago and Vancouver. He is a highly regarded gold market expert and much in demand as a conference speaker.
Michael EconomidesTo open day two we were fortunate to have secured the services of Professor Michael Economides; author of ‘The Color of Oil’ and more recently ‘From Soviet to Putin & Back’. Michael presented his views on ‘energy geopolitics’, which had recently been pushed into the limelight, with Russia’s invasion into Georgia and its renewed threat to withhold gas supplies to Europe.
We brought the conference to an end with a Panel Session, where Roger asked a panel of experts a whole host of questions regarding the commodities super-cycle, energy, precious metals etc. This was also be an opportunity to ask questions you wanted answers to.
As important as the formal presentations was the chance to meet with other HBS clients and other attendees and to talk candidly with the senior management of the companies we had invited.
